Powder Journal - Continued
February 9 , 2005 - Powder Mountain. Today’s group consisted of myself, locals Mike and Barbara McConvill and their son Tyler visiting from
Cat skiing at Powder Mountain with about six inches of new snow, cool blue skies and not a hint of wind. (Mind you, this white blanket was the result of a storm on February 7th, two days ago!) This was a fitting activity for the McConvill’s – a true skiing family. Riding the chairlift to catch another cat ride, we could look to the right and see our tacks … and scope out our next run. We were like kids in a candy store! Did I mention we made these tracks in Sugar Bowl?
George Van (right), owner of a Phase IV Highlands building lot, only started skiing regularly in his forties when he moved from Florida to Park City, Utah three years ago to be closer to his twin niece and nephew. You may have heard of his niece, Lindsey Van, the famous female ski jumper, now Number 2 in the world. George took two weeks of ski lessons in the Park City Mountain Resort “Ski College.” As you can see at left, he held his own with us on this idyllic run. Where else can you ski untracked fluff within resort boundaries for several days after a storm and still leave a some for the next day? Now that George has the bug, these powder opportunities may very well bring him to live in Eden. We know that is why we are here.
