February 13 , 2005 - Snowbasin. We could tell on our drive up (above) that it was going to be a beautiful day. The fact that it snowed the day before wasn't a bad omen either. Our friends from Park City joined us for some crowd-free skiing. Father and daughter team, J.D. and Jenna (right), really had fun in Strawberry Bowl. I couldn't resist creating the composite of the two of them with their similar forms. Click for larger images.

February 15, 2005 - Snowbasin. All the forces of Mother Nature came together today to create skiing and riding perfection. A slow moving storm deposited 16 inches of snow and the sun broke out this morning. The temperature stayed cold enough to keep the snow light – and, oh, so easy to ski. Sylvia (above) and I started our day on the John Paul Quad Chair. At the top, the tram was already running, but unfortunately the gate to Noname Peak was not quite open. Still, the south-facing slope from the Women’s Downhill Start Shack was heavenly. At the risk of waiting for an undetermined opening time, we headed to Strawberry to partake of guaranteed fields of powder. Sometimes the masses wait for Noname to open while a few are smart enough of go tear it up on the other side. This happened today.

Richard himself!

Arriving after 11 a.m., my neighbor Cozanne (upper left) still had the best day of her life. Then we ran into Richard Caldwell (above), a great photographer, to help us document all the fun. I think the three of us look unashamedly happy. After eleven runs (about 27,000 vertical feet) I know I was leaving some untracked powder behind. Only in Utah.

February 20, 2005 - Snowbasin. After yesterday’s storm and winds that kept Strawberry lift from running all day, we knew the bowls would be magnificent. It snowed all day and we just couldn’t track it up! Happiness is ...

February 21, 2005 - Snowbasin. Presidents’ Day! Knowing that few people ventured into to Strawberry during the storm yesterday, Russ and I figured it would yield quite a bit of untracked fluff for the morning runs today. How right we were!

Notice how my words are fewer each day as the season progresses? When the skiing just gets better and better, pictures tell the story more than adequately.
